I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Noorjean Hassam as the new Chief Student Health Officer (CSHO). She will begin this role on May 10, 2021.

Ms. Hassam joins UBC from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), where she has been the Chief Operating Officer since 2014. Prior to this role, she was Regional Director for BC Cancer, and has held several healthcare leadership roles in both Canada and the United States. In these roles, Ms. Hassam has provided strategic leadership enabling the advancement of strategic priorities and initiatives, as well as, championing cultural safety, anti-racism, and reconciliation work in a variety of healthcare settings.

As the CSHO, Ms. Hassam will play a pivotal role in continuing to enhance and advance our student health and wellbeing services and programing, and strengthening our health-related partnerships in supporting our integrated system of care of our students.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer my deep appreciation to Dr. Samantha Reid, Executive Director Office of the Vice President Students, for the leadership she has provided in supporting the continued advancement of the strategic priorities of the Student Health and Wellbeing unit over the past nine months as the Interim Student Health and Wellbeing Lead.

Please join me in congratulating Ms. Noorjean Hassam and welcoming her to UBC.
