December 2022 message from Ainsley Carry and Dale Mullings

by Ainsley Carry and Dale Mullings

This post was originally an email sent to UBC students on Dec 12, 2022.

December is a time for reflection—assessing how we started the year, where we are now, and where we dream about going in the new year.

As we look back, there is a lot for which we can be grateful. You have shown up with hard work and commitment to get to where you are today. We know it has not always been easy—but you made it this far, and we hope you take some time to note your successes, big and small, as you wind down the term.

As you think about what you accomplished this year, we hope you take a moment to think of those who helped you along the way: a family member who called you at the right time, a friend who made you laugh through exam stress, a librarian who helped you with a research project, a barista who took extra care with your favourite drink, or a helpful academic advisor.

You can, and probably already do, have the same impact on others. When you start Winter Term 2, pay special attention to those around you. Help someone feel less alone. Be the person who made someone else’s day—or term—better.

If you want to learn more about supports available to you, read more about services and resources available on UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

No matter which campus you are on, our doors are always open—please reach out if you have questions, ideas, or want to connect in person.

We wish you all the best as you complete your projects, papers, research, and exams. Take care of yourself. Wishing you a safe and joyous holiday season.
